There is just something about golden hour engagement photos that hits differently, and Kirstie & Kiya’s session is exactly why! The light was soft, the field was glowing, and everything felt calm in that slow, late-afternoon kind of way. From the second we started, I knew this was going to be special. Not because it was overly styled or dramatic, but because it felt honest. Effortless. And honestly? So them. They walked into the session nervous (which is so normal), but within minutes we were laughing nonstop. By the time the sun really started to drop, they were completely at ease, and it shows in every single photo!

Golden Hour Engagement Photos That Feel Effortless & Editorial
The vibe? Very cool. Very understated. Low-key giving Tommy Hilfiger campaign energy in the best way! Kirstie in the structured blazer and denim. Kiya in the soft, flowy white dress. The neutral tones against that golden field? Unreal. It felt elevated but not try-hard. Stylish but still totally natural. The kind of session that doesn’t need over-posing because the connection carries it.
We started walking through the field while the light filtered through the trees, and they slowly relaxed into each other. The way they held hands, leaned in, brushed hair out of each other’s faces, none of it felt forced. It just felt like two people who really love being close. Once they realized they didn’t have to “perform,” everything shifted. That’s always my favorite part, when couples forget about the camera and just exist together!

Laughing Through the Nerves During These Golden Hour Engagement Photos
I think what I loved most about this session was the transformation. They showed up a little unsure, a little stiff, and by the end we were popping wine on a picnic blanket and laying in the grass like we’d been friends forever. The overhead shots of them lying side by side? Obsessed. The way the sun cut across their faces. The quiet confidence that came through once they settled in. And then those standing hugs at the end, wrapped up in each other while the field glowed around them. It didn’t feel performative. It felt grounded.
And I want to say this in the most natural way possible, photographing their love wasn’t about making a statement. It wasn’t about “highlighting” anything for the sake of it. It was simply about documenting two women completely comfortable and safe with each other. That’s it. That’s the magic. Love is love, and when it’s relaxed and real like this, it photographs beautifully. They got married in Mexico (which, iconic), but I’m so grateful I got to capture this season for them. Engagement sessions don’t have to be over the top. Sometimes all you need is good light, neutral outfits, a little wine, and space to breathe!
